The Dudman Group of Companies have a vacancy for a Plant Operations / Maintenance Manager based at our Southwick Head Office, West Sussex.

Based primarily in West Sussex, the Group is a substantial business producing primary sand and gravel, crushed rock sub-bases and Armour Rock from both land-based and marine sources together with being producers of Readymixed Concrete. Scope

The operations / maintenance manager is a key role within the business, the person will be expected to maintain all company mobile and static plant to a high standard and work with our own staff and outsiders to strive for excellence and efficiency. Procurement of all company purchases is also a critical element of the role. The role would suit a service controller or scheduler looking for the next step in their career.

Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance engineers and their daily work schedule
  • Plan and schedule static and mobile plant maintenance with internal staff and external suppliers
  • Problem solve and react to breakdown situations in a timely and controlled manner
  • Procure supplies commercially and engage with suppliers on price, lead time and delivery costs
  • Look to maximise efficiency within the operations department
  • Upkeep company maintenance records
  • Work with senior management to plan and cost capital projects
  • Liaise with internal departments on procurement needs, stock level maintaining
  • Liaise with sites and department heads on maintenance, defect reporting and rectification
  • Process order fulfilment from point of purchase to receipt of invoice with internal company system and accounts department
  • Develop relationships and build rapport with suppliers
  • Anticipate potential issues and work under own initiative to solve
  • Prioritise work to importance and production needs
  • To ensure the Group fulfils all legislative and SHE responsibilities for the maintenance and repair of plant and machinery

Person Specification

Essential
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team
  • Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good telephone manner
  • Experience working with either mobile or static plant
  • Experience / exposure to purchasing and reporting to senior managers
  • Experienced in using various IT systems and packages (mostly MS office based)
  • Experience in managing a small team of engineers
  • Clean driving licence
  • EU working entitlement
Desirable
  • Construction Industry experience
  • Knowledge of diesel engines and / or hydraulics
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and drawings
  • An interest and wish to learn more about excavators and associated construction plant

Hours of work, renumeration and benefits

This position is full time, Monday to Friday with 1 x Saturday morning per month on a rota basis. Salary commensurate with experience.
